Maharani Gin is the first release from Rebel City Distillery, the first new distillery in Cork city in almost fifty years. Fusing a longstanding heritage of craft with a splash of experimentalism, Rebel City Distillery was founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife Robert and Bhagya alongside Robert’s father Brendan Barrett. Maharani Gin celebrates a fusion of Cork and Kerala cultures, from where Robert and Bhagya respectively come from. Maharani Gin is an homage to Kerala women who are known for their strength and importance in society.
The word ‘Maharani’, meaning Queen, is a tribute to revolutionary women everywhere. A fusion of two creative cultures, a gin of truly transcendent taste. Maharani Gin celebrates our founders’ roots, hand crafted in Cork, Ireland, with botanicals from Kerala, India. Maharani is at the forefront of a new style of gin, a balanced mix of spice, citrus and sweetness. Our multi-award-winning premium gin is zested with pomelo fruit, and uniquely spiced with cassia and nutmeg-mace, all sourced from a women’s organic farming co-operative in Kerala.
Maharani is a multi-award-winning gin achieving four titles in its first year: Silver in The London Spirits Awards, bronze in the Craft Spirits Berlin, gold in The Gin Masters, and bronze in the IWSC. It recently was awarded a prestige silver medal in the Blas na hÉireann which is the ultimate seal of approval for quality food and drink made in Ireland. Blas na hÉireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for distinguishing excellence amongst the food and drink produce made on the island of Ireland.
